Clinton LumberKings News Release
Beloit, WI - Jack Larsen drove in five runs and the Clinton LumberKings dropped the Beloit Snappers 8-5 in a seesaw battle at Harry Pohlman Field on Sunday afternoon. Larsen ended his afternoon going 3-for-5 at the plate with a triple and five RBI.
Clinton (14-6) spotted the Snappers (9-9) an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Beloit tallied three runs against LumberKings starter Ryne Inman. A two out two-run single by Trace Loehr capped the rally for Beloit which gave them a 3-0 lead.
The lead did not hold up long for the Snappers. Ryan Costello put the LumberKings on the board with a two-run home run to right, his third of the season, all of which have come against the Snappers.
In the top of the third inning, Clinton took their first lead of the game with their second two-run rally of the afternoon. Larsen bounced a single through the right side of the infield with two out in the inning for a 4-3 LumberKings lead.
Beloit answered Clinton in the bottom of the fourth to reclaim their lead. Four hits against LumberKings reliever Clay Chandler led to two more runs for the Snappers and put them in front 5-4.
Both teams bullpen's then traded zeroes in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings before the LumberKings tied the game in the eighth. Louis Boyd led the inning off with a triple down the line in right and scored on a pass ball that tied the game at five.
The LumberKings broke the tie in the top of the ninth inning against Snappers reliever Heath Bowers. Clinton loaded the bases against Bowers (1-1) with two out in the inning when Larsen cleared the bases with a triple to left center field to give him his fifth RBI of the game. The five RBI performance by Larsen set a new professional career high.
Sam Delaplane (1-0) worked the ninth for Clinton and worked around a one out single and walk by getting Logan Farrar to bounce into a game ending double play.
The LumberKings will welcome in the Bowling Green Hot Rods for a three-game series starting on Tuesday, May 29. Following the off day, the LumberKings will throw left-hander Nick Wells (2-1, 5.89) to open the series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM. Fans looking to listen to the call of the game can hear Erik Oas at 6:15 PM with the pregame show on 100.3 FM WCCI.
Tuesday will see the return of "Two-Dollar Tuesday" to Ashford University Field. $2 tickets, $2 box seat upgrades, $2 Miller Lite & Coors Light tall boys, $2 soft drinks, $2 hot dogs, and $2 ice cream are available throughout the games.
