West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - After falling to the Lansing Lugnuts in the opening game of a Sunday afternoon doubleheader by a score of 1-0, the West Michigan Whitecaps came back from a 2-0 deficit with three straight runs and took the second game with a 3-2 victory in front of 4,575 fans at Fifth Third Ballpark.

Game one of the doubleheader resulted in little offense for both clubs as Lugnuts starter Yennsy Diaz stifled the Whitecaps, allowing only two singles in his six innings. Eudis Idrogo proved up to the challenge for West Michigan, scattering five hits and despite pitching complete game seven innings, giving up the game's lone run on a sacrifice fly in the second inning. The 1-0 Lugnuts lead held for the rest of Game 1 as the Whitecaps managed only two runners in scoring position throughout the contest. Garret McCain and Brady Policelli provided the two hits for West Michigan. Idrogo (0-2) suffered the hard-luck loss for the Whitecaps, while Diaz (3-0) remained perfect with the win.

Game 2 saw Lansing score in the first inning off spot-starter Dylan Stock, who joined the team from extended spring training earlier in the day. Stock gave up a two-run double in the first before the "Caps fought back to tie the game at 2-2 in a third inning highlighted by a Luke Burch RBI-single. A fielding error by Lansing scored another "Caps run to tie the game at two. West Michigan completed the comeback in the fourth as Garcia plated Colby Bortles with a go-ahead triple. Solid relief work by Oswaldo Castillo and Wladimir Pinto sealed the win for the Whitecaps, who won for only the second time in the five-game weekend series. Garcia recorded two of the six hits by West Michigan in the win. The "Caps moved to 14-9 with the victory as Lansing fell to 16-8. Castillo (3-0) earned the win by striking out three and not giving up a hit. Pinto picked up his fourth save of 2018 despite taking a comeback liner off his throwing arm in an inning of relief.
