BISMARCK, ND - The Rochester Honkers dropped game one of their four game series against the Bismarck Larks 2-1 on Wednesday night. Both pitching staffs were tremendous in this game, beginning with the starters. Bismarck's opening day starter Seth Brewer (Northern State University) was dominant through five innings, he allowed one run on three hits, striking out 9. Rochester's starter, Lance Santerre (University of San Francisco) was just as good. He retired the first 11 batters he faced, going six innings overall, allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out nine without walking a batter.
The scoring in this game starting in the bottom of the fourth. After a Joseph Kalafut (Edgewood College) single, Jake Hjelle (Minnesota Crookston) lined a single into right field. The ball got by Jakob Guardado (Pasadena City College) and allowed Kalafut to score. The very next batter, Reggie Williams (Colorado State University Pueblo) lined an RBI single to make it 2-0 Larks. In the fifth the Honkers got a run back on a Will Asby RBI single (Sacramento City College) but that's all Rochester could get tonight.
The Larks bullpen combined to throw four scoreless innings, facing one batter over the minimum. Nate Boyle (Drury University) picked up his first save of the season, fanning two in a dominant ninth inning.
Brewer picked his first win of the season while Santerre was the hard luck loser. With the loss Rochester falls to 1-2 this season and have lost two straight. Game two of the series is tomorrow night, first pitch is at 6:35 p.m from Bismarck Municipal Ballpark.
