Rafters Ride Pitching to First Win of 2022
June 1, 2022 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
GREEN BAY, Wis - As the old saying goes, "You are just as good as your starting pitching." In that case, Michael Lindsey had the Rafters rolling in their first win of 2022 over the Rockers, 3-0.
Lindsey started the first inning in blazing fashion with a 1-2-3 inning. The Rockers starter, Dylan Carter, was also dealing for Green Bay. However, he left a fastball right down the middle for Rafters right fielder, Marco Castillo, who crushed a 400+ foot homer in the top of the second inning. This was the game-winning hit, unbeknownst to anyone at the time, as Lindsey continued doing his thing on the mound.
Lindsey had to pitch out of trouble a few times, stranding five batters across five innings pitched as well. He finished with 90 pitches through five innings, eight strikeouts, three walks, and only one hit allowed and picked up the win. Logan Schulfer came into the game in the sixth and continued the pitching dominance that Lindsey had started. Schulfer threw the last four innings while picking up the save, only allowing two hits, striking out five, and only walked one batter.
The Rafters offense added some more insurance in the seventh when Ben Ross crushed a slider off of Green Bay's Jacob Schaaf for a two-run homer. This would prove to be the finishing touches on the game, as the Rafters would win 3-0. Both offenses were stagnant all night, as each team only had three hits apiece and the Rafters offense struck out 18 times, while the Rockers struck out 13 times. Ben Ross of the Rafters and Matt Scannell of the Rockers both finished the night with two hits, the only two players with multiple hits all night.
The Rafters take on the Madison Mallards at 6:05 pm on June 1st at Witter Field. Tune into Northwoods League Baseball Network to watch Carter Gledhill call tomorrow's action on television, while on WFHR 1320 AM/97.5 FM to hear Brett Loftis call every Rafters game on the radio.
