Duluth Huskies News Release

Duluth, Minn. - After a tough two games in Mankato that saw little offense from the Huskies, they bounced back in their home opener on Wednesday night.

After a rain delay that saw his start canceled in game one of the season, Pat Miner took the bump Wednesday night to take on the Minnesota Mud Puppies. He looked fantastic all night long, only giving up two runs in the second inning. He pitched five full innings, giving up four hits, two earned runs, one walk, and struck out five. Through one start this summer, Pat's ERA is at a solid 3.60.

On the other side of the field, Korey Dahlberg got the start for Minnesota. The Huskies were able to jump on him early, scoring 3 in the first and 3 in the second. The real electricity came in the bottom of the third inning, when Noah Marcello stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and only one away. He was able to get a hold of one and pull Dahlberg's fastball deep over the wall for the first grand slam of the year. At the end of the night, Marcello finished at 2-4 with 7 RBI's and 3 runs.

Dahlberg ended up getting pulled after 2.1 innings pitched. He gave up nine earned runs on eight hits, while he walked and struck out three. The Huskies ended up scoring at least two runs in each of the first five innings. On top of that, six Huskies had multiple hits, including Kristian Campbell who went 4-6 with 3 RBI's and a double.

Once the game went to the bullpen, Minnesota was able to get some more runs on the board. Caleb Gallant and Darryl Johnson Jr. both struggled in their appearances, but Michael Sarhatt, Steen Lane, and Jake Christianson picked up their teammates.

At the end of the day, the Huskies beat the Mud Puppies 17-9. Duluth had 16 hits against Minnesota's eight, and the Huskies had one error compared to the Mud Puppies' three.

The Huskies go for the sweep against the Mud Puppies tomorrow afternoon at 12:05pm. You can watch it on Northwoodsleague.com or listen to it on Mixlr.com under the page Duluthhuskiesradio2022.
