SUGAR LAND, TX - The First Half Freedom Division Champion Sugar Land Skeeters announced today that Skeeters outfielder Ryan Langerhans has signed with the Toronto Blue Jays organization and will report to its Triple A Buffalo club. The announcement was made by Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti and Director of Operations Michael Kirk.
Langerhans is now the ninth member of Sugar Land's 2013 club and 19th overall to be signed by a Major League organization since Opening Day 2012. Despite the roster changes this season, Sugar Land maintains the best winning percentage in baseball, posting a 78-38 record (.672) entering tonight's game against the Camden Riversharks.
Langerhans, 33, joined Sugar Land in early July and played 36 games for the Skeeters, hitting .283 (32x113) with 10 doubles, four home runs and 25 RBI. He spent the first half of the season with Toronto's Triple A Buffalo and hit at a .220 (37x168) with nine homers and 25 RBI over 51 games. In 14 career minor league seasons, the Texas native owns a .269 (1137x4950) average with 122 home runs and 576 RBI.
Originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the third round of the June 1998 Draft out of Round Rock (TX) High School, Langerhans spent 10 seasons in the Major Leagues with Atlanta (2002-03, 2005-07), Oakland (2007), Washington (2007-08), Seattle (2009-11) and Los Angeles-Anaheim (2012). As a member of the Braves in 2005, the lefty played in four games of the National League Division Series against the Houston Astros, hitting .333 (4x12) during postseason play. Over 593 career Major League games, Langerhans owns a .226 (280x1239) average with 33 home runs and 125 RBI.
