WALDORF, Md. - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs welcomed the Bridgeport Bluefish to Regency Furniture Stadium for the final time in the regular season. The Blue Crabs entered the series with an 8-6 record versus the Bluefish on the year as both teams were looking to move up the Liberty Division second-half standings. Getting the call for the Crabs was left-handed pitcher, Logan Williamson (4-1, 2.80). The Bluefish would call on a lefty of their own in Hunter Jones (6-10, 4.36). Designated hitter, Jose Julio-Ruiz blasted a grand slam in the fifth to give the Blue Crabs the lead as they would go on to win 6-4.
The Bridgeport Bluefish would strike first in the contest tallying two runs in the top of the second inning. Designated hitter, Alexis Gomez, would leadoff the inning by doubling to left field. After advancing to third on a balk, Gomez would come around to score on a CF James Simmons single to centerfield. Simmons would later speed around the bases on a C Yusuf Carter double to center.
Down 2-1 in the fifth the Blue Crabs offense got to work. Second basemen Mike Richard reached on an error by the Bridgeport first basemen. Jeremy Owens would hit his second double of the night to put runners on second and third. After a fly out and fielder's choice, LF Brian Barton would walk to load the bases. First basemen, Jose Salas, would bring in the game-tying run after being plunked by Bridgeport pitcher Hunter Jones. Designated hitter, Jose Julio-Ruiz, would break the game wide open as he blasted the Jones delivery out to the deepest part of the park.
The Bluefish would tack on a run in both the seventh and eighth but Logan Williamson and the rest of the Blue Crabs bullpen would hold on to earn the 6-4 win.
