Patriots Sign Fernando Hernandez

Bridgewater, NJ - The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Fernando Hernandez.

Hernandez has Major League experience with the Oakland A's in 2008 where he pitched in three games.

In addition to his Major League time, Hernandez has four seasons of Triple-A experience with the Chicago White Sox, A's, and New York Yankees organizations. He reached the Double-A level during his time with the Toronto Blue Jays organization.

Hernandez has prior Atlantic League experience, having played for the Camden Riversharks for 13 games in 2011 and finished with a 1-0 record and 2.08 ERA in 13 games.

Before joining the Patriots, Hernandez played part of the 2013 season in Mexico, where he appeared in six games for Minatitlan.

He has a minor league career 43-44 record and 3.88 ERA in 698.1 innings pitched in 455 games.

To make room for Hernandez, who is active for Thursday night's game against the Long Island Ducks, the Patriots have placed right-handed pitcher Josh Lowey on the Inactive List.
