Bluefish to Hold Angel Espada Day

Bridgeport, Conn. - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced they will hold Angel Espada Day at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Sunday, September 15.
"Angel Espada was a cornerstone of this franchise for nine years and made a lasting impact in Bridgeport both on and off the field" said Bluefish general manager Ken Shepard. "Angel is one of the greatest players in our history, a class individual and we are excited to retire his jersey."
A special pre-game ceremony will be held on-field recognizing Angel's accomplishments with the Bluefish and the team will also retire his jersey. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet Angel and have him sign their memorabilia during the team's pre-game autograph session.
"I'm extremely honored to have my jersey retired at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard as a member of the Bluefish" Espada said. "It was a pleasure to spend a portion of my career in Bridgeport and would like to thank all the fans for the support over the years."
When Bluefish fans think about the history of the franchise, one player sticks out significantly, and that is Angel Espada. During his time in Bridgeport, the infielder had a special connection with not only the players and managers on the field, but all the Bluefish fans that came out to watch him play. He spent nine years in a Bluefish uniform, encompassing 734 games played and holds franchise records in runs scored (444), hits (817), and stolen bases (173). His best season with the 'Fish' came in 1999, when he was an integral part of the Championship team that season. The slugger posted a Bluefish single-season best .356 batting average and also won the Atlantic League batting title with that impressive mark.
Any guest that brings a piece of Angel Espada memorabilia (baseball card, photo, jersey, etc.) to the Bluefish Ticket Office on the date of the game will receive a special $11.00 Box ticket.
Game time is 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, September 15 and The Ballpark at Harbor Yard gates open at 12:05 p.m. The special pre-game autograph session will begin at 12:10 p.m. and last 20 minutes.
