Lancers Force Overtime, But Fall to the Tri-City Storm

KEARNEY, NE. - The Lancers headed west tonight (10/30) to try to get some revenge on the Tri-City Storm as they fell by a score of 5-0 the night prior at Ralston Arena.
It was clear that tonight, the Lancers simply wanted it more. They came out faster than ever and hard hitting. Which sadly ended up resulting to Cade Ahrenholz picking up 14 minutes worth of penalties in the first minute and a half of the game as he picked up a two minute minor for checking from behind and a 10-minute misconduct for the hit. That was followed up with a roughing minor as Ahrenholz and Drew Montgomery got into it after the play.
It took seven minutes for the first goal to be scored, as Drew Montgomery got a stretch pass from Tanner Adams to move in on Omaha goaltender, Mason Kucenski. Kucenski made the initial save, but was slightly dragged out of his crease by Montgomery, resulting in an easy tap-in for Ilya Nikolaev.
That ended up being the lone goal of the first period, resulting in a 1-0 lead for The Storm after the first.
The second period brought more of a momentum change, from Tri-City, to Omaha. Halfway through the period, Tanner Rowe picked up the puck in the neutral zone, moved in, snuck a pass around a sliding Aiden Dubinsky to meet Luke Strickland on the backdoor. Resulting in the game tying goal. Giving them both their first point of the season.
The second period ended with a 1-1 tie game.
The third period was exciting. Giving both teams their fair share of power-play time as Omaha picked up four third period penalties, and Tri-City picking up three.
Despite all the great offensive chances, both Kucenski and Storm goalie, Arsenii Sergeev stood strong, moving the game into overtime, tied at one goal a side.
Omaha started the overtime period with a 53 second man advantage as Cole O'Hara got a roughing penalty with just 1:08 left in regulation.
Shortly after exiting the box, O'Hara jumped in on the play with Victor Czerneckianair and Mitchell Miller and netted a one-timer past the blocker of Kucenski, winning the game 2-1 for Tri-City.
This overtime loss moves the Lancers to 4-4-2-0 on the year, as Tri-City improves to 7-2-0-0.
The Lancers will hit the road next week as they will be visiting the Fargo Force at Scheels Arena to attempt to pick up another sweep on the Force. Friday's game (11/6) is set to drop puck at 7:05 P.M. as Saturday's (11/7) is set to start at 6:05 P.M.
