
Hotson Scores Twice, Lumberjacks Fall 4-3 in a Shootout to Dubuque

MUSKEGON, Mich. - The Muskegon Lumberjacks maintained a two-goal lead in the second period, but the Dubuque Fighting Saints found a way to come back to defeat the Lumberjacks 4-to-3 in a shootout from Mercy Health Arena. Tyler Hotson potted a pair of goals while Jake Braccini scored his first goal as a Lumberjack. Dubuque's Stephen Halliday also picked up two goals with the other lamplighter from Connor Kurth, who finishes an impressive three-goal, six-point weekend.
1st Period
Muskegon played a really solid opening 20 minutes, and they were rewarded with Tyler Hotson potting his third goal of the season at 5:07 of the first period. Noah Ellis and David Hymovitch picked up assists on Hotson's goal to give the Lumberjacks the 1-to-0 lead.
After the first period, Muskegon took a 1-to-0 lead into the dressing room.
2nd Period
It only took 42 seconds for Dubuque to respond while on the power play as Connor Kurth picked up his third goal on the weekend. Stephen Halliday and Samuel Sjölund assisted on Kurth's goal to tie the game at one.
Muskegon forward Jake Braccini netted his first career goal with the Lumberjacks since being acquired via trade at 7:46 of the period. Newcomer Parker Lindauer helped Braccini's second goal of the season to give Muskegon a 2-to-1 lead at 7:46 of the period.
Tyler Hotson would light the lamp for the second time tonight at 9:07 to double up the score. Jacob Guevin and David Hymovitch picked up helpers on the play to give the Jacks a 3-to-1 lead.
However, with the Saints on the power play, Stephen Halliday scored on Lumberjack goalie Cameron Korpi to put the Saints within one at 12:43. Nikita Borodayenko and Connor Kurth assisted on the goal to make it a one-goal game.
At the end of two periods, the Lumberjacks took a 3-to-2 into the second intermission.
3rd Period
Another early goal in the third period saw the Saints tie the game at 3-to-3 with back-to-back goals from Stephen Halliday. Connor Kurth and Ryan Beck picked up assists on Halliday's sixth goal of the season to even the score.
With both teams deadlocked at three, the two teams proceeded to sudden-death overtime.
Overtime
No team could find the back of the net, but Lumberjack netminder Cameron Korpi came up with the timely save numerous times. Quinn Hutson also had a breakaway to win the game, but Fighting Saints goaltender Paxton Geisel made the glove snare to keep things even.
After five minutes of three-on-three overtime, no team could hit the twine as both teams headed to a shootout.
Shootout
Only one goal was scored in the shootout, courtesy of Dubuque's Kenny Connors. Hutson, Tresca, and Strinden all shot for Muskegon but were denied.
In the end, the Dubuque Fighting Saints came back from two goals down to collect four points on the weekend, defeating the Lumberjacks 4-to-2 in the weekend series. The Lumberjacks do collect one point in the standings.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks continue their four-game homestand at Mercy Health Arena as they welcome the Youngstown Phantoms for a weekend series on Nov. 5-6. Both games will start at 7:10 pm EST from downtown Muskegon.
