Lakewood Wins Shortened Finale, 4-3

Lakewood, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws (23-42) defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds (27-38) 4-3 in a rain shortened game on Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Park. The teams were called off the field before the bottom of the fifth inning and never returned.

Lakewood struck first in the second inning. With runners at second and third, Kyrell Hudson hit a line drive single into center field to give the BlueClaws a 2-0 lead.

The Shorebirds countered with three runs in the fourth inning. Wynston Sawyer reached on an error by shortstop Stephen Malcolm. Then, Gabriel Lino hit a double to the warning track in left-center to advance Sawyer to third. Then, Sammie Starr singled into center field to plate Sawyer. Mychal Givens tied the game with a chopper to short. Glynn Davis gave the Shorebirds the lead with a two-out single into left field to score Starr.

The BlueClaws responded in the fourth to regain the lead. With Chris Duffy at first and two outs, Hudson hit a double inside the right field line to tie the game at 3-3. Then, with Malcolm batting, Hudson broke to third and Lino's throw to third was wide and into left field, allowing Hudson to score.

Lakewood starter Josh Warner earned the win over five innings. He allowed five hits and no earned runs. Shorebirds starter Eduardo Rodriguez will get the loss over four innings. He surrendered four this and three earned runs.
