Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - Greenville showed impressive character and resolve in their final game of the home stand against Asheville, as they got great pitching efforts from Henry Owens, Matty Ott, as well as Tyler Lockwood en route to a 2-1 victory Wednesday night at Fluor Field.

Owens and company looked sharp from the get-go, holding the Tourists to zero runs through the first two innings while scoring two runs of their own to take an early lead. Jason Repko tallied a one-out infield single, advanced to third on Drew Turocy's groundout, and came around to score on David Renfroe's two-out single.

An inning later, it was another two out base hit that drove in Greenville's run. Henry Ramos led off with a single, and appeared as if he'd be stranded following consecutive ground outs by Lucas LeBlanc and Jordan Weems. Jose Vinicio had other ideas however, beating out an infield grounder which proved to be the eventual game-winner.

After a scoreless third inning, Asheville got on the board in the fourth inning, shrinking the lead to a one run Drive advantage. Sam Mende took care of the run all by himself, leading off the frame with a double, stealing third and scoring on a wild pitch.

After a scoreless fifth inning by both teams, Greenville went with right-hander Matty Ott, hoping to cling to or extend their lead for the duration of the contest. Ott pitched two scoreless innings in a row, and Greenville looked primed to extend their lead at the bottom of the seventh inning.

Greenville didn't capitalize, and headed into the games last couple of innings, still clinging on to a one run lead. The eighth inning brought more of the same from the Greenville bullpen, as Ott pitched his final scoreless inning of the night.

The ninth inning, right-hander Tyler Lockwood took the mound, looking the finish the Tourists off and did so, affectively notching a 2-1 win to close out the home stand. Lockwood converted for his fifth save of the season.

Having concluded the home schedule of the South Atlantic League's first half, the Drive now hit the road for five games in four days against the Augusta GreenJackets at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
