Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - With the bases loaded in the ninth inning of a tie game, Garrett Buechele was hit by a pitch to force in the winning run for the Augusta GreenJackets as they took two of three from the Rome Braves with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon. The win was Augusta's seventh in their last nine games.

With one out in the inning, Rome reliever Bryam Garcia (0-1) walked Jose Flores after retiring the first seven hitters he faced. Ben Thomas singled to put runners on first and second and both runners moved up 90 feet on a groundout. After Jose Cuevas walked to load the bases, Buechele worked the count full before taking the 3-2 pitch in between the shoulder blades to force in the winning run and give the GreenJackets their fourth walkoff win of the year.

The Braves got on the board with a third-inning run to take a 1-0 lead. Elmer Reyes walked, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a fielding error to give Rome the first lead of the day. In the bottom of the fourth, Augusta tied the game with two straight hits to open the fourth inning. Jose Flores doubled to open the frame and scored on Ben Thomas's RBI single to tie the game at one.

Augusta wouldn't get another hit until the ninth inning as Navery Moore and Garcia shut down the GreenJackets in the middle innings. After a loss in his last start against the GreenJackets on Friday, Moore allowed a run on three hits in six innings while striking out a career-high eight. Garcia followed with two perfect innings of relief until the Augusta rally in the ninth.

For the GreenJackets, Kyle Crick threw five solid innings at the outset before departing after blister issues popped up on his pitching hand in the fifth. He allowed an unearned run on two hits and three walks while striking out four. Steven Neff stepped up in a big way out of the Augusta bullpen, allowing a hit and a pair of walks in three scoreless innings to get the game to the ninth.

Kyle Vazquez (1-1) allowed two hits in the ninth inning but got out of the frame without any damage to get the win.

The GreenJackets took four of the six games played with the Braves over the last six days and will face the Greenville Drive for five games in their final series of the first half starting with a doubleheader on Thursday at Lake Olmstead Stadium. Augusta will send Kevin Couture (2-4, 3.73) and Adalberto Mejia (4-4, 6.15) to the mound in the twinbill.
