Lakewood Makes It 3 Straight Over Augusta

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws won their third straight game over the Augusta GreenJackets with a 4-3 victory on Tuesday night. The BlueClaws walked off winners on a 2-out RBI single by Geancarlo Mendez to take the series 3 games to 1 over Augusta. The win also gave Lakewood a 5-2 record on their completed 7 game home stand.

Jesse Biddle had another nice start for the BlueClaws allowing 3 runs on 8 hits over 6 innings. He didn't factor in the decision. Colby Shreve came on in relief and pitched the final 3 innings for Lakewood. Shreve allowed just 3 hits and no runs over 3 innings to pick up his 4th win and improve to 4-5 on the season. Lakewood was out hit 11-9 in the game.

Two nexcomers to the club came through big for Lakewood on Tuesday with both Carlos Alonso and Steve Singleton going 2-3 with a double and a run scored. 7 of Lakewood's starters had hits with Miguel Alvarez and Cameron Rupp being the only 2 who were held hitless.

Geancarlo Mendez came through with a 2 out line drive single to RF to win it for Lakewood in the 9th inning. It was the 9th walk off win for the BlueClaws this season, and made Lakewood 21-17 in 1 run games. Lakewood is now 18-14 in the 2nd Half, 2 games behind the 1st Place Hickory Crawdads. The BlueClaws now hit the road and head to Charleston, WV to begin an 8 road trip.

Lakewood is off on Wednesday, and will take the field again at 7:05 pm on Thursday for the first game of their 4 game series against the West Virginia Power. RHP Garett Claypool (3-6, 3.28 ERA) will start for Lakewood and RHP Tyler Waldron (6-6, 4.75 ERA) will do the same for Augusta.
