Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated Kannapolis Intimidators 9-8 Tuesday night at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 2,701. Rome have an off day tomorrow before hitting the road for a four game series against the Lexington Legends
With a 2-2 tie in the top of the fourth the Intimidators took advantage of an Edward Salcedo throwing error on a tough bunt play to put runners on second and third. Marcus Semien then drove in a run with an RBI groundout to give Kannapolis a 3-2 lead.
With one out in the top of the fourth David Rohm (4) tied the game 3-3 after he belted a solo homer on the first pitch he saw. Unfortunately the tie would not last long as Kannapolis continued its offensive outburst and put up three runs in the top of the fifth. Rangel Ravelo yanked a two RBI double down the left field line and Miguel Gonzalez drove in the third run with an RBI fielder's choice to give Kannapolis a 6-3 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Salcedo got the Braves going after he roped a triple to right center with one out. Evan Gattis drove him in on a fielder's choice to narrow the score to 6-4. David Rohm then followed one out later with an RBI single down the right field line to bring Gattis around and score making it a one run game. Ryan Query (1) then delivered the biggest blow of the night when he crushed a three run homer to give the Braves an 8-6 advantage.
Kannapolis tied the game 8-8 in the top of the eighth on a two RBI double by Ravelo that dropped in shallow left. Rome found themselves with runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the eighth and pinch hitter Robert Hefflinger at the plate. The pressure was taken off of Hefflinger when Kyle Rose scampered home from third on a passed ball to score and give the Braves a 9-8 lead. Matt Chaffee closed the door in the ninth to seal the 9-8 victory and send Rome on the road with a 5-1 home stand.
Willie Kempf (2-3) earns the win for Rome and Jake Wilson (3-1) takes the loss for Kannapolis. Matt Chaffee earns his first save of the season.
The Braves return home again on August 1st. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
