SAVANNAH, GA - Behind six shutout innings from starter Angel Cuan, the Savannah Sand Gnats defeated the Lexington Legends 2-0 on a rainy Tuesday afternoon to win their sixth straight game. The Gnats (21-11/60-41) are off on Wednesday before heading to Greensboro for four games Thursday through Sunday. Savannah returns home to host the Augusta GreenJackets for four games next Monday through Thursday nights.

The Gnats scored the game's only two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. SS Luis Nieves walked with one out to begin the rally. With two outs, LF Alonzo Harris tripled over the head of Lexington CF Jay Austin to bring home Nieves to put the Gnats ahead 1-0. RF Rafael Fernandez followed with a line drive single to right sending home Harris for a 2-0 advantage. Fernandez finished 2-4 with an RBI. Harris, who had his nine-game hitting streak snapped Monday night, has now hit safely in 10 of his last 11 contests.

Savannah starter Angel Cuan was dominant over six shutout innings, yielding just one hit, on a bunt single in the third inning, to improve to 9-1 with a 3.02 ERA. He did not walk a batter and struck out nine, tying a season-high for a Savannah pitcher. Adam Kolarek held the Legends (11-21/46-55) off the scoreboard for the final three innings to pick up his fourth save.

The Gnats begin their four-game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers, the SAL affiliate of the Florida Marlins, on Thursday night with RHP Yohan Almonte (4-5, 3.49) on the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm. The game broadcast on News/Talk 630 WBMQ and sandgnats.com will begin at 7 pm.
