Lakewood Falls 4-3 to West Virginia in Rain Shortened Game

CHARLESTON, WV - Rain stopped play with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th inning with the West Virginia Power on top of the Lakewood BlueClaws 4-3 on Thursday night in Game 1 of their 4 game series. The umpires tried to wait it out, but after a 1 hour and 2 minute delay they called the game official and the Power were the winners. The final score and win for the Power sends both teams to a 33-33 record with 3 games left in the First Half. It also means that one of the teams will finish the First Half with a winning record and one will not.

Lisalberto Bonilla made his 2nd start of the year for Lakewood and lasted only 3 innings. He gave up 6 hits, walked 3, allowed 4 runs/3 earned, and struck out 3. The righty got the loss to fall to 0-2 on the year. LHP Jay Johnson came in and pitched very well for Lakewood going 3 1/3rd innings of shutout ball. He allowed no hits, just 1 walk and struck out 2. LHP Colton Cain got the win for West Virginia after lasting 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 6 strikeouts.

Anthony Hewitt was 3-3 with an RBI for Lakewood when the game was called and had also stolen 2 bases. Leadoff man Alan Schoenberger was 2-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI and Jim Murphy was 1-3 with a run scored. Power leadoff man Drew Maggi was 2-3 with a double and an RBI as well.

Friday night the same two teams will face off for Game 2 of their 4 game series with First Pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm. RHP David Buchanan (8-3, 2.85 ERA) will start for Lakewood and RHP Zach Von Rosenberg (2-4, 6.59 ERA) will get the call for West Virginia.
