
Manzueta, Hoppers 2-hit Intimidators

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 16, 2011) -- Greensboro starting pitcher Jheyson Manzueta pitched seven shut out innings as the Kannapolis Intimidators fell 4-0 to the Grasshoppers on Thursday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Manzueta (2-5) matched a career-high with seven innings and combined with relievers Mike Ojala and Michael Brady to 2-hit Kannapolis. The loss eliminates the Intimidators from winning the South Atlantic League Northern Division first half.
Greensboro's Daniel Black legged out a slow-rolling infield single to score Brian McConkey to get on the board in the second inning. Marcell Ozuna led off the third inning with a double, and Ryan Fisher added a two-out double to bring him home. McConkey singled home Fisher for a 3-0 lead after three innings.
Intimidators starter Steven Upchurch walked Fisher in the fifth inning, and Fisher advanced to third base after a wild pitch and a groundout. Orlando Santos took over for Upchurch with two outs in the fifth and allowed an RBI-single for Wilfredo Gonzalez for a 4-0 Grasshoppers lead. Upchurch (2-6) finished the game allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks in a losing effort.
Santos pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings, and Chase Cooney struck out the side in the ninth inning for Kannapolis.
