HICKORY, NC - RHP Luke Jackson struck out 10 batters through his five-inning start to help pace the Hickory Crawdads to the 5-1 victory against the Charleston RiverDogs, before 3,113 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Thursday night. Hickory has won five in a row and nine of their last 10 games to remain tied with the Greensboro Grasshoppers for 1st place in the Northern Division with only three games left in the first half.

After Jackson (W, 2-1) struck out eight batters through his first three scoreless frames, the Crawdads (38-27) took the lead with three runs against LHP Nik Turley (L, 3-6) in the bottom of the third. With one down, SS Jurickson Profar reached all the way to second on a two-base throwing error committed by 3B Rob Segedin. Profar stole his way to third, before scoring on another throwing error by Segedin, putting Hickory in front, 1-0. The 'Dads added to the lead with a pair of two-out tallies later in the frame. C Tomas Telis singled and moved to second when 3B Christian Villanueva was hit by a pitch, putting two on. DH Andrew Clark brought both in with a two-run double to right field, capping the frame with a 3-0 Crawdads lead.

Jackson struck another RiverDog out in a 1-2-3 fourth inning, before Charleston (25-42) plated their lone run of the game in the fifth. C Gary Sanchez started the inning with a solo home run against Jackson, who then worked out of the rest of the frame unscathed before giving way to RHP Ben Rowen and the bullpen in the sixth.

Hickory responded right away, tallying insurance runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. CF Jake Skole brought in RF Josh Richmond, who had tripled, with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and then Villanueva stretched it to a four-run lead with an RBI single in the seventh.

Rowen tossed two scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh, before LHP Jimmy Reyes dealt a scoreless eighth and ninth to close out the 5-1 win for the Crawdads.
