Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets scratched out a pair of sixth-inning runs and got four no-hit innings from a quartet of relievers to earn a 6-5 victory over the Asheville Tourists in the opener of a four-game series on Thursday night.

Edward Concepcion (1-1), Drew Bowlin, Brett Bochy and Stephen Harrold struck out six and allowed just one run in four innings of one-run baseball. Harrold picked up bookend strikeouts in a perfect ninth inning to seal the win with his tenth save of the year.

Adam Duvall's sacrifice fly in the first inning gave Augusta an early 1-0 lead but it was short-lived. Shawn Sanford - who'd walked just four hitters in his last seven starts (45.1 innings) - walked back-to-back hitters to open the second. With one out, Helder Velazquez doubled home both runners to give Asheville a 2-1 edge. Russell Wilson followed with an RBI triple to push the lead out to 3-1.

Joel Weeks hit a two-out, two-strike RBI single in the bottom of the second to cut Asheville's lead to one, but the Tourists answered in the next half inning when the second of two Sanford wild pitches pushed the Asheville advantage to 4-2.

The GreenJackets clawed back to tie the game at four in the fourth inning. Ryan Scoma's RBI double made it a one-run game. Scoma scored on Ehire Adrianza's sacrifice fly later in the inning.

Asheville got the only run they managed off the Augusta bullpen in the sixth, a run entirely manufactured by Wilson. The speedster walked, stole second and third and scored when Weeks' throw to third went into left field.

Augusta took what became their final lead of the night in the bottom of that inning. Chris Lofton's one-out groundball was bobbled initially by Asheville shortstop Cristhian Adames and the Tourists only got one out on the play instead of an inning-ending double play. That allowed Weeks to score the tying run from third. A wild pitch brought Adrianza home with two outs to give the GreenJackets the eventual winning run.

Sanford struggled through five innings, allowing five runs on five hits and a season-high five walks. Sanford also struck out five. Tourists reliever Josh Mueller (2-3) took the loss for Asheville, surrendering both six inning runs.

The GreenJackets will send Justin Schumer (2-2, 5.88) to the mound in an attempt to win two in a row while Asheville will oppose with lefty Tyler Matzek (0-1, 7.04). First pitch will come at 7:05 with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50, airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .

Single-game tickets are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
