AHL Laval Rocket

Lacouvee Makes 31 Saves in Rocket 3-2 Shootout Win over Senators

Laval Rocket News Release

The Senators took a 1-0 lead over the Rocket almost seven minutes into the game as Jean-Christophe Beaudin sent his seventh of the season behind Connor LaCouvee, who made 31 saves in the Rocket's victory. Joël Bouchard's players increased the pressure against their opponents in the final minutes of the period, but Belleville's Marcus Hogberg turned away all of Laval's nine shots to maintain his team's lead.

Two powerplay goals in the opening six minutes of the second period gave the Rocket their first lead of the night, with the first goal coming just over three minutes into the period. Lukas Vejdemo picked up Alexandre Alain's rebound to net his 13th of the season at the 3:01 mark while Joe Cox picked up Xavier Ouellet's rebound in the slot just two minutes later for his second of the season. Joseph LaBate brought the teams back to square one in the final minute of the period however, tying the game at two.

LaCouvee had a strong third period and frustrated the Senators with his play, most notably by robbing Logan Brown with his glove with twelve minutes remaining in the period. Ultimately 60 minutes wasn't enough to determine a winner and the two teams went to overtime and eventually to a shootout, where Daniel Audette netted the game-winning goal for the Rocket.

"It wasn't a perfect game, but it was really good one," said Bouchard after the game. "There was a lot of effort and we had some players who had a very good game. They had great a performance considering that there were 17 players on the other team with NHL experience [...]so it wasn't perfect, but I'm really pleased."
