Belleville Senators News Release

The Belleville Senators collected another point in its playoff push in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Laval Rocket at CAA Arena.

Belleville's JC Beaudin and Joseph LaBate scored in regulation while Marcus Hogberg made 26 saves. Laval's Connor LaCouvee turned away 31 shots while Lukas Vejdemo and Joe Cox found the back of the net.

Tied at 2-2 after 60 minutes, the Senators dominated overtime but couldn't find a way past LaCouvee who made a number of big saves in the extra frame.

One goal was all it took in the shootout as Daniel Audette buried the winner as Adam Tambellini, Drake Batherson and Darren Archibald couldn't convert for Belleville.

Belleville had the only goal of the opening frame and it came through Beaudin as he scored his first in a Sens jersey as he beat LaCouvee five-hole after Joseph LaBate's centering pass from the corner at 6:37.

The visitors tied the game on the power play at 3:01 of the second as Vejdemo buried a rebound and it was a similar outcome at 5:04 as Cox was the benefactor of Hogberg rebound to give the Rocket a 2-1 edge.

However, LaBate tied the game with 22.6 seconds left as he ripped a wrist shot high past LaCouvee for his seventh of the season to make it a 2-2 game.

Belleville rookie Drake Batherson dropped the gloves with David Sklenicka after the Rocket defenceman slewfooted Nick Paul, who briefly left the game, but did return.

The Sens are back in action Saturday as they face Laval for the final time this season. Tickets are available.
