Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - Jake Laber scattered three hits and allowed no earned runs in 6 1/3 innings to help lead the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to a 3-1 defeat of the Lincoln Saltdogs in American Association play on Tuesday at Newman Outdoor Field.
The RedHawks (9-9) have now won seven of their last eight games and their four-game winning streak is the longest of the 2013 season.
The first three innings were a rubber match between Laber and Lincoln starter Pete Parise. Both teams were able to pick up only one hit each until the fourth.
Fargo-Moorhead scored the first run of the game on a Keith Brachold RBI single that drove in Dionys Cesar from third. Ron Bourquin hit a double to lead off the fifth and eventually scored after a Parise throwing error - increasing the RedHawks lead to 2-0.
Laber (2-1) pitched into the seventh allowing only one hit before two singles and a sacrifice fly by Dennis Raben brought Nathan Kilcrease in from the bullpen. Kilcrease eventually struck out four of the five batters he faced, Joe Harris picked up a strikeout against one batter and Chase Johnson earned his fifth consecutive save getting the final two outs in the ninth.
Parise's record dropped to 2-1 in the loss, throwing 6 1/3 innings and giving up six hits and two runs (one earned) with two strikeouts. Conor Spink pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief allowing an earned run on two hits and a walk, while Travis Parker gave up a hit to the one batter he faced in the eighth.
The RedHawks finished with nine hits in the game. Bourquin extended a 17-game on-base streak with a 2-for-3 performance and had a run scored in the contest. Cesar picked up two hits and newly-acquired CJ Retherford had an RBI single to stretch Fargo-Moorhead's lead to 3-1 in the eighth.
David Espinosa went 2-for-4 with a double in the first and Ian Gac hit a single in the seventh to make up the Lincoln (9-8) attack.
The RedHawks and Saltdogs continue a four-game series at 7:02 p.m. Tuesday at Newman Outdoor Field. Tickets are available at fmredhawks.com or by calling (701)-235-6161.
