Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. -- The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks gained a 3-1 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes with a solid defensive game behind a stellar performance from starter Jake Laber in front of a crowd of 3,802 on Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
The Goldeyes (12-9) plated the first run of the game with a solo home run in the top of the third by Amos Ramon, his first of the season.
The RedHawks tied it up in the bottom of the third with a Tim Alberts RBI single after Goldeyes' starter, Matt Hardy, issued walks to Zach Penprase and Tyler Graham.
Fargo-Moorhead earned the go-ahead run in the fifth with a double from Nic Jackson after a Penprase walk. With that walk, Penprase tied Johnny Knott and Joe Mathis for the all-time walk record in RedHawks history with 254.
Buddy Sosnoskie shined in left field, throwing two Winnipeg runners out at second, halting the Goldeyes from getting in scoring position in both the fourth and seventh innings.
Winnipeg's Hardy (3-1) went six innings with three runs (two earned) with seven hits and four strikeouts.
Laber threw 119 pitches in 8 2/3 innings, only allowing the Ramon home run.
"He is the key to our team, after rededicating himself this season," said manager Doug Siminic of Laber.
"Hats off to Jake Laber, his last three starts he has went out there and has given us a chance to win," said third baseman Ronnie Bourqin who was 2-for-3 Friday night.
With Friday's win, the RedHawks are 11-11 and are trailing the Goldeyes by 1.5 games in the North Division. The series continues with game two on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.
