Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Quebec City Capitales shut down the Kansas City offense for eight innings Friday night, taking the series opener 3-2 on three one-run innings before 6,097 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
In the ninth, trailing 3-0, Kansas City's Ray Sadler ended a hitless streak that lasted 12 at-bats by sending a pitch from Chris Cox (7) over the left field wall. The homer was Sadler's 1,500th hit in his career and scored Kansas City's only two runs of the night.
Prior to that, Capitales starter Karl Gélinas (3-0) and reliever Charle Rosario kept the T-Bones off the board through eight innings, allowing only six baserunners on three hits. For his efforts, Gélinas maintained a 0.00 ERA that has spanned three starts and 19 innings in 2013.
Shaun Garceau (0-4) went 7 1/3 innings and gave up two earned runs. In five starts this season, the T-Bones have averaged 2.6 runs behind Garceau, who has also seen seven unearned runs cross the plate while on the mound.
Kansas City's Sean Toler gave up a hit against the one batter he faced in the seventh, and Jose Jimenez struck out two over 1 2/3 innings.
Game two of the interleague series between Kansas City and Quebec City begins at 7:05 on Saturday night. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618 or at tbonesbaseball.com.
