
Lemurs Lose in First Match against Amarillo

Laredo, TX - Amarillo Soxthird baseman Brandon Jones hits a solo home run in the top of the eighth to break a 4-4 tie and gives the Amarillo Sox (9-11) a 5-4 win in the first meeting with the Laredo Lemurs (14-8) in 2013.
The Sox opened up the scoring with two runs in the top of the second with Trey Ford and KC Serna driving in runs to make it 2-0 Amarillo.
The Lemurs would get on the board in the bottom of the third with a Jimmy Mojica homerun, the bomb would make the score 2-1 Sox. It was Mojica's first homer of the season.
The Lemurs put up a three spot in the fifth with a leadoff double coming off the bat of Jake Opitz. Sawyer Carroll would follow up with a base hit of his own to put runners at first and third. John Allen would single to bring in Opitz to make it 3-2 Sox. Jon Gaston followed up the Allen RBI with a single and a RBI of his own to tie the score at three. Then Mike Sheridan doubled to bring in Allen and give the Lemurs a 4-3 lead through five.
The lead would not last long as the Sox would see Cory Patton reach base on a single in the sixth. The Patton single was followed by an error by Lemurs first baseman John Allen that put runner at second and third. Then KC Serna hit a sac-fly to center to bring the run in from third to tie the game at four.
Lemurs' relief pitcher Chad Povich took the loss as he gave up the home run to Brandon Jones in the top of the eighth. Povich moves his record to 0-1 on the season.
David Newmann got the start for the Lemurs and went five and a third, giving up four runs, on seven hits, with three walks, and four strikeouts.
The winning pitcher was John Holdzkom who moves his record to 1-1 on the year after he pitched the sixth and seventh innings, giving up a hit, and striking out two.
The Lemurs and the Sox will play at Uni-Trade Stadium through Sunday. All games are set for 7:30pm.
