October 28, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
LA Galaxy News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Sunday, October 27, 2013) - The LA Galaxy will continue their quest for a record third straight MLS Cup championship on Sunday, November 3 when they host Real Salt Lake in the first leg of the Western Conference Semifinals at StubHub Center. That game, which is presented by Health Net, will kick off at 6 p.m. and can be seen live nationally on ESPN and ESPN Deportes. The date and time for the second leg of the two-leg, aggregate goal series will be announced at a later date. All of the most up to date Galaxy postseason information is available online at www.lagalaxy.com/questforthree.
Tickets for all Galaxy home playoff games, including the first leg of the Western Conference Semifinals, are on sale now by visiting www.lagalaxy.com/playofftickets or by calling 877-3GALAXY (342-5299).
The Galaxy finished the regular season with a 15-11-8 record for 53 points, leaving them in third place in the Western Conference, three points behind Real Salt Lake, who finished in second place with a 16-10-8 record for 56 points. The two sides met three times on the year with the Galaxy going 2-1-0 in those three matches. The Galaxy won 2-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium on April 27 before falling 3-1 there on June 8. In their only meeting of the season at StubHub Center on August 17, Robbie Keane scored a hat trick to lead the Galaxy to a 4-2 win.
The Galaxy and Real Salt Lake are two of three teams to have qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs in each of the past five years. The two sides have met twice in that time with RSL beating the Galaxy on penalties in MLS Cup 2009 and LA winning 3-1 in the 2011 Western Conference Championship en route to the third of their four MLS Cup championships.
Outside of a three-year stretch from 2006-08, the Galaxy have qualified for the postseason for every season in the history of MLS. After winning the MLS Cup title in 2011 and 2012, the Galaxy will look to become the first club in MLS history to win three straight championships. LA's four MLS Cup titles are tied for the most in league history while their eight Western Conference Championships are the most in league history.
