Cubo Torres "Would be Happy to Return."
October 28, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
The 2013 Major League Soccer Regular Season is over and so is Chivas USA's participation in it, which arises the query of what players will return for the 2014 campaign. A player that features this list is forward and Golden Boot winner with the Red-and-White, Erick "Cubo" Torres.
"Cubo" signed with MLS and the Goats on loan from Chivas USA's brother club Chivas Guadalajara on July 9, 2013. Despite his young age, the 20-years old player's maturity and eagerness to improve are two of his best qualities. His always positive attitude along with his long-relationship with Coach Jose Luis Real and a locker room that greeted him with open arms were what helped him adapt quickly and without facing major issues.
Eight days after his signing and on his MLS debut, Torres tallied his first goal as an American Goat, and by that, he also opened what seemed a Pandora box filled with goals. In 15 games on the other side of the border, the now Golden Boot winner with Chivas USA found the back of the net seven times, to the delight of all the fans who witnessed his robotic celebration.
"I leave very happy [with the goals I've scored]," explained the young striker. "It was very helpful to me... ...as it's a very important process in my soccer career on and off the pitch as well."
The reception that Cubo had not only came from his teammates but also from all the fans who follow him closely around the world and specially, here in Los Angeles. It's because of all those supporters that Torres, humbly, continues to send messages of gratitude and support.
"The fans here at Chivas USA are who deserve respect for how they support us, and how they stand by us despite [the results]. To me, that's something that I'm taking with me, and I'm leaving with that great feeling of having seen those people who never stopped cheering and who always continued to support us."
Having the fans in mind and led by his usual optimism, Cubo spoke about the team's reinforcements ahead of next season and how they will help build on the project started by Real.
"We want to stay and we hope next year is a different one, with players who come to reinforce us, help and contribute. It's going to be a different year in which we are going to get way better and that's the idea, be able to qualify to the playoffs."
Having said that, the leading question had his return as a reference, and without a doubt the forward answered by stating that he "would be happy to return". Next year, whether it is with Chivas Mexico or Chivas USA, his commitment with the club and its fans will remain the same in either side of the border.
"I'm going to take [any decision] by being very humble and responsible and by working in whatever they command me to do. If I return, it's to work with tons of ambition and tons of desire to do things right, and if I stay in Guadalajara, it's also to do it with the same intensity," the Red-and-White player concluded.
Recap: Red-and-White USSDA Teams come out on top
The following is a recap of the weekend's action:
U.S. Soccer Development Academy
Chivas USA's U18 squad recorded their first victory of the season on Saturday morning after defeating Arsenal FC U18 1-0 at the Bell Gardens Sports Complex with a lone goal by Andres Lemus. Continuing the U18s luck, the Red-and-White U16 Team earned their first victory in two games, defeating Arsenal U16s, 2-1. Up next, both squads will host Nomads SC next Sunday at 1 p.m. & 3:30 p.m. (PT), at the Bell Gardens Sports Complex's Field 5.
Concluding action on Saturday afternoon, Chivas USA's U14 squad earned a 2-2 draw with Arsenal FC, the second consecutive draw for the young Goats. Before the end of the first half, Arsenal were able to score the first of the match, and came back to go up 2-0 by the 50th minute. The match would not be over for the Goats as they made a comeback and scored two goals in three minutes for the final 2-2 draw. The Red-and-White will host Nomads SC next Sunday at 6 p.m. (PT) at the Bell Gardens Sports Complex's Field 5.
Coast Soccer League
Working to get back their winning streak, Chivas USA's U23 squad earned a strong 4-1 victory over Doxa Italia on Saturday evening at John Anson Ford Park in Bell Gardens. Ericson Penate and Anthony Dheming each scored their third goal of the season, while Javier Castro notched his second and Joe Franco got his first to help the Red-and-White earn a victory. Next Sunday, the U23's will visit Corinthians USA at Citrus College Stadium at 5:30 p.m. (PT), as both squads will be fighting to earn the top spot in the general standings.
In another double-match weekend, Chivas USA's U15 were unable to come out with positive results. On Saturday, the Red-and-White fell 4-1 to HG Eagles; Gerardo Lopez scored the lone goal in the 60th minute in favor of the Goats. The following day was the same for the youth team as they took a 2-1 loss, this time to FC Golden State Premier. Even though Erick Gallinar opened the scoreboard for the Red-and-White in the 19th minute, it was not enough to earn the win. The U15s will have a mid-week friendly match before facing South Bay Gunners Black next Saturday at 11:20 .m. (PT) at the University of California, Irvine's Field 3.
Chivas USA Academy vs. U.S. Boys National Team

After the game, a second group of U.S. U15 players will face the Red-and-White's U16 Team at 7:30 p.m.(PT), also at SHC's Field 2. Both games are open to the public and include free parking.

Chivas return to training
Chivas USA returned to the training fields on Monday to continue building on the foundation ahead of the 2014 Major League Soccer Season. At 9:30 a.m. (PT) the team took Field 6 at the StubHub Center to kick off the first of three sessions scheduled for this week.
The morning session began with a brief chat led by the technical staff at midfield followed by a series of stretching exercises. The warm-up continued with a light jog around the field, followed by a series of abdominal strengthening and upper-body exercises.
The day went on with a passing and ball distribution drill in one half of the pitch where four players were positioned in different starting points.
The group was then split into two of 10 players apiece. Two of them were placed inside a box trying to steal the ball from the other eight set around the square.
Following up the distribution exercises, the Red-and-White moved on to working on definition by setting up the ball from both sides of the attacking third. The attacking players would then try to finish the play by shooting at goal.
At 11:20 a.m. (PT) Strength and Conditioning Coach Armando Camacho blew the final whistle and went on to finish the session with a series of stretching exercises at midfield.
The Goats will return to training at the StubHub Center's Field 6 on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, follow your team on the club's social media channels: Twitter, Facebook & Instagram .
