Clinton LumberKings News Release

Thursday Recap

@ Wisconsin 8, Clinton 2

The TimberRattlers got to Clinton starter Eric Hurley (9-3; 3.90) for three runs on five hits and a pair of walks, knocking him out of the game after just four innings and then jumped on reliever Kevin Altman for five runs, three earned, in the sixth to put the game out of reach for the 12-15 LumberKings.

Jim Fasano (.278 / .341 / .411) belted his sixth homer of the year and doubled in a 3-4 effort that produced just one run while both Craig Hurba and Ben Harrison went 2-4. Tug Hulett doubled, walked and stole his 14th base of the year in four plate appearances.

Reliever Daniel Touchet pitched two scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and a walk. The former Miami Hurricane has not allowed a run in four innings of work for Clinton since his promotion from the Rangers Arizona Rookie League club last week.

Friday Recap

@ Wisconsin 7, Clinton 6 (10 Innings)

Clinton's Mark Roberts (1-1; 0.75), who hadn't allowed a run in 11.2 innings this year, surrendered the game winner as Wisconsin drew a walk, moved the runner over on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI single in the bottom of the tenth.

The LumberKings took it to extra innings by scoring two in the ninth as Casey Benjamin and Tug Hulett drew walks before coming around to score on an error, knotting the game at six apiece. Hulett, incidentally, leads the MWL with 70 walks. Meanwhile, the Auburn alum has fanned just 63 times.

Starter John Bannister (5.02 ERA) surrendered six runs, five earned, on ten hits and a pair of walks while fanning six before Marc Lamacchia (4.11 ERA) took over and dealt three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and walking two, giving the Clinton lineup time to come back.

Brandon Boggs (.284 / .374 / .494 overall; .342 / .405 / .592 in 76 July at-bats) delivered his eighth homer of the year in a 1-4 outing while Emerson Frostad, Craig Hurba and Ben Harrison each went 2-5.

Saturday Recap

Clinton 8 @ Wisconsin 6 (11 Innings)

The LumberKings got a two-run single from 18 year old catcher Alberto Martinez to highlight a three-run rally in the ninth that got them into extra innings and then rallied for two runs in the 11th to post a victory over the TimberRattlers in Appleton.

Tug Hulett, who went 2-5 with a pair of doubles and a walk, Casey Benjamin, who finished 2-4 with a double and a walk, keyed Clinton's 11th inning rally. Ian Gac went 3-4 with a double while Emerson Frostad went 2-2 with a double to drive in two runs.

Starter Kea Kometani (3.44) went five, allowing two runs on six hits before Johnny Lujan (3.18) suffered through an un characteristically rough outing, surrendering four runs on three hits and a pair of walks in three innings.

Mark Roberts (2-1; 0.60) was brilliant once again, dealing three no-hit innings, fanning four to earn the victory.
