Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING - The Toronto Blue Jays have announced today that three roster moves for the Lansing Lugnuts. Left handed reliever Daryl Harang has been promoted from Lansing to Dunedin in the Florida State League. Taking Harang's spot on the active roster is right hander Yesson Berroa, who was sent to Auburn in the New-York Penn League earlier in the homestand against Peoria. Finally, catcher Anthony Sanders joins the club today in Clinton, taking the spot of catcher Joey Reiman, who was sent to Dunedin on July 24th.
Harang becomes the eighth Lansing player to earn a promotion to the Dunedin club in 2005. After just coming off the DL, the lefty from San Diego earned his second save of the year in Lansing's 7-6 win over Peoria at Olds Park on Sunday afternoon. In all, the 22-year old left hander earned a 2-0 mark with a 3.21 ERA in 16 games for the Lugnuts in 2005.
Berroa, who never saw action with the Doubledays following his demotion, returns to the bullpen mix. The right handed reliever from San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic returns to Lansing and will look to improve upon his 6.75 ERA he earned in his only appearance as a Lugnut.
Finally, Sanders fills out the catchers after the promotion of Reiman on Sunday. Sanders, who is in town for some rehab work, is a 31-year-old from Tucson, Arizona. Originally a 7th round pick of Toronto's in 1992, Sanders has spent parts of 13 seasons in the minor leagues. He has also spent time in the Japanese Leagues(2001) and the independent leagues(2001) along with some limited big league experience in 1999 with Toronto and in 2000 and 2001 with the Seattle Mariners. In 12 seasons coming into this year, Sanders is a career .256 hitter with 28 homers and 142 RBI in 1,110 games at the minor league level.
Previous to coming to Lansing, Sanders saw action in only two games with Syracuse(AAA), batting .333 with an RBI.
The current roster moves place the Lugnuts' active roster at 25 players.
