TODAY'S GAME - The Silver Hawks and Beloit Snappers, the class A affiliate of the Minnesota twins open the first game of a four game set at The Cove. The Silver Hawks, who won the first half eastern division crown are tied for second with the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays who trai the West Michigan Whitecaps by 1.0 game. This is game 5-of-8 scheduled regular season meetings between the clubs. The Silver Hawks took 3of-4 games June 20-22 in Beloit. LAST GAME - The Silver Hawks modest two game winning streak came to a screeching halt Sunday in a 6-1 loss to the Dayton Dragons. The Hawks could manage just four hits off three Dayton pitchers in suffering their fourth loss over their last seven games.
FIREWORKS FLAMEOUT - Since finishing the fireworks show on July 3, the South Bend Silver Hawks have struggled at home and on the road. In eight home games, the Hawks are 4-4 and 4-7 when staying in hotels. The Hawks snapped a three game losing skid Saturday night, which tied their longest losing streak of the season. The Hawks two other three game losing streaks occurred May 11-13 and June 15-17.
LONGBALL WATCH - In 140 games in 2004, the South Bend Silver Hawks clubbed 85 home runs. With another big fly Saturday night and through 100 games in 2005, the Hawks have belted 87 home runs, eclipsing last seasons' total. Five players already reached double digit figures. Carlos Gonzalez and Mark Reynolds have (13), Agustin Murillo (11), while Allen Mottram and Cesar Nicolas (15). Mottram and Nicolas are tied for third in the Midwest League.
NIFTY FIFTIES - With four RBI knocked in by Mark Reynolds and another run driven in by Jereme Milons Saturday night, the Hawks now have five players that have 50 RBI or better. Carlos Gonzalez and Agustin Murillo are the two Hawks with more than 60 RBI. Gonzalez leads the way with 66 RBI, while Murillo has chimed in with 62. Javier Brito is third on the squad (52), with Reynolds and Milons rounding out the top five on the team with 51 and 50 respectively.
