Padres trades equal movement for Wizards

Fort Wayne, IN - With the trade activity by the San Diego Padres over the weekend, Wizards starting pitcher Clayton Hamilton and relief pitcher Ryan Klatt were both promoted to the Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League.

Cesar Ramos and Brandon Kintzler were both promoted to Fort Wayne from the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League.

Hamilton, a Midwest League All-Star, was 9-6 with a 2.88 earned run average in 20 starts for the Wizards. In 122 innings pitched, opponents were hitting .226 against Hamilton. He had allowed 101 hits and 36 walks, while striking out 86.

Klatt joined the Wizards pitching staff on June 17 and went 0-2 with one save in 16 appearances. In 15 2/3 innings pitched, the right-hander had a 2.87 ERA, while striking out 14.

Ramos comes to Fort Wayne after being drafted by the Padres in the supplemental round of this year's June Amateur Draft out of Long Beach State University. The left-hander was the 35th overall selection in the draft.

Ramos opened his professional career with Eugene, going 0-1 with a 6.53 ERA in six appearances (including four starts). In 20 2/3 innings, he had allowed 27 hits and seven walks, while striking out 13 against Northwest League opponents.

Kintzler was selected by San Diego in the 40th round of the2004 June Amateur Draft out of Dixie State (Utah) Junior College. He split time between Peoria, Arizona and Eugene last year, combining to go 3-2 with a 2.19 ERA in 24 relief appearances.

This year, Kintzler started in Peoria and went 2-0 with one save in eight appearances before moving to Eugene on July 16. With the Emeralds this year, in three appearances, he was 0-0 in 3 1/3 innings over the course of three relief appearances.
