Kurtz, Pielmeier Assigned to Jackals

The Elmira Jackals announced on Monday that forward John Kurtz and goaltender Timo Pielmeier have been assigned to the club from its AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch.

Kurtz, a second-year left wing, re-signed with Syracuse on Dec. 6 after skating the majority of his rookie campaign of 2010-2011 with the Crunch. In 49 games with Syracuse last season, Kurtz contributed four goals and two assists for six points to go along with 102 penalty minutes. The Oakville, Ontario native participated in eight games with Elmira last season as well, scoring a goal and adding two assists for three points.

Prior to turning pro, Kurtz played in four seasons in the OHL from 2006-2010. After skating his first season of 2006-2007 with the Windsor Spitfires, Kurtz played with the Sudbury Wolves from 2007-2010, serving as the club's captain in his final season. In 251 career OHL games, Kurtz notched 143 points (71g-72a) and 175 penalty minutes.

Pielmeier had been reassigned by the Jackals' NHL affiliate, the Anaheim Ducks, to the Crunch from Elmira on Nov. 27. With the Jackals this season, the third-year pro from Deggendorf, Germany is 4-5-0-0 with a .896 save percentage and a 3.45 goals-against average. Pielmeier has not played in a game with Syracuse in 2011-2012.

Elmira also announced on Monday that it has placed goaltender Nick Niedert on waivers. The eighth-year pro from Hudson, Iowa made his ECHL debut on Friday in Florida, making one save on three shots in the third period.
