Express Weekly: Chicago Earns Five of Six Points Against Kalamazoo

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, faced the Kalamazoo Wings three times last week, winning once in regulation, once in a shootout, and falling once in overtime to earn five of six possible points. The Express are now 13-7-2-1, and their 29 points places them in second place in the North Division, just one point behind Kalamazoo.

EXPRESS 4, Kalamazoo 1

The Express surrendered the game's first goal 1:57 into the game, but evened the scoring at 7:16 to end the first period in a 1-1 tie. RW Chaz Johnson, F Mike Embach, and LW Chad Painchaud all scored in the second period, and G Allen York stopped all nine third period Kalamazoo shots to boost the Express to a 4-1 win on home ice over the Wings.

Friday, December 9

EXPRESS 6, Kalamazoo 5 (SO)

Fireworks in the first period resulted in five total goals, as the Express ended up on the wrong end of 3-2 first period score. The Wings added a penalty shot goal in the second period, and then scored early in the third to gain a 5-2 lead. Chicago came right back as D Scott Wietecha and F Mike Embach scored less than four minutes apart to bring the Express back to within one. LW Chad Painchaud tied the game with his second goal and third point of the night, forcing the game into a shootout. F Bobby Robins and F Justin Taylor traded goals in the second round, and Express F Kyle Ostrow scored in the fifth and final round to secure a 6-5 shootout win.

Saturday, December 10

KALAMAZOO 4, Express 3, OT

After a back and forth game saw the Express take a 2-1 lead into the third period, Kalamazoo F Dean Strong scored two goals in 1:02 to give the Wings a 3-2 lead. C Aaron Marvin struck back for the Express to force overtime, but just 14 seconds into the extra frame D Sam Ftorek scored a power play goal, granting the Wings a 4-3 overtime win.

Team Notes: D Darcy Campbell scored his 100th professional point with an assist on Friday night.RW Chaz Johnson played in his 200th ECHL game on Saturday night. D Brett Motherwell made his Chicago Express debut on Saturday and earned an assist.On Friday, Chicago came back from a three goal deficit to win in a shootout for the second time this season. The first time it happened was on Friday, Nov. 4, against the Cincinnati Cyclones at the Sears Centre Arena.Chicago surrendered just 19 shots to Kalamazoo on Friday, the lowest shot total they have allowed in a single game all season.D Scott Lehman scored his first point of the season when he assisted on D Scott Wietecha's third period goal on Friday.D Scott Wietecha scored his first professional goal on Friday. He was originally credited with his first goal on Nov. 27 in Trenton, however on later review it was determined that D Josh Burrows deflected the puck in Trenton.Upcoming Schedule:
