BOWIE, Md. - Chad Kuhl fired seven scoreless innings as the Altoona Curve blanked the first-place Bowie Baysox, 2-0, to cap a three-game road sweep at Prince George's Stadium on Sunday after.
The win marked the 14th shutout of the season for Curve (68-59) pitching as they closed within 3.5 games of the division-leading Baysox (71-55).
Kuhl pitched just two batters above the minimum and held the Baysox to two hits. He struck out four without allowing a walk and sat down 13 straight Baysox between the second and sixth innings. Kuhl has now worked 17.2 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to his Aug. 12 start against Binghamton.
Jacob Stallings led off the fifth inning with a triple and Stetson Allie brought him in to score with a sacrifice fly to break the scoreless tie against Bowie starter Joe Gunkel (L, 9-4).
Eric Wood doubled the Curve lead to 2-0 in the eighth with an RBI single.
John Kuchno pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Jhondaniel Medina (Save, 8) closed out the Baysox in the ninth.
