Broom Time Again 'Wolves Sweep Ducks

The SeaWolves completed a three-game series sweep over the Akron RubberDucks with an 8-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park. Erie has won a season-high six straight games.

Erie scored first for the third straight game in the top of the second against Akron starter Shawn Morimando. Dominic Ficociello singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Alberto Gonzalez singled home Ficociello for a 1-0 lead. Connor Harrell followed and broke an 0-for-12 skid at the plate when he tripled home Gonzalez for a 2-0 lead.

The 'Wolves added to the lead in the third. Wynton Bernard led off with his second hit of the game and scored on a two-out Ficociello triple making it 3-0.

The Ducks got one back in the bottom of the third against Erie starter Austin Kubitza. Eric Stamets led off and reached on an error. Stamets advanced to second on a groundout and scored on a Carlos Moncrief base hit.

Erie went back up by three runs in the top of the fifth. Bernard led off, beat out an infield single and advanced to second on an errant throw. Bernard moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Jeff McVaney sacrifice fly to left for a 4-1 advantage.

The SeaWolves opened up the game in the top of the sixth. Wade Gaynor led off with a double and scored on a Gonzalez knock for a 5-1 lead. Drew Longley singled home Gonzalez making it 6-1. Bernard followed with a single to left for his fourth hit of the afternoon. JaCoby Jones doubled home the runners for an 8-1 lead.

Kubitza (8-11) earned the win allowing an unearned run on six hits with on walks and five strikeouts in five innings of work.

The SeaWolves have swept consecutive series for the first time since August 6-12, 2010 when Erie took three at Reading and three at home against New Britain.
