LAST GAMES: The Binghamton Mets took game one of the doubleheader, beating New Hampshire, 3-0, Saturday at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. It was Binghamton's 12th shutout of the season. Tyler Pill went the first 5.2 innings, improving to 4-0 in four B-Met starts this season. Paul Sewald retired all four batters he faced, striking out three of them, as he stranded the bases loaded in the sixth inning for his 22nd save. Binghamton scored all three runs in the first inning, including two off the bat of Jonathan Galvez.
The Fisher Cats returned the favor in game two, shutting out the B-Mets 3-0. Binghamton was held to one hit, which came off the bat of TJ Rivera. Mickey Jannis suffered the loss in his Double-A debut, allowing three runs in 5.1 innings.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Matt Koch gets the ball in the series finale, as he makes his fourth consecutive start. He is 0-3 since being reinserted to the starting rotation, as the B-Mets have scored three total runs in the three games. Overall this year, Koch has a 5.10 in six starts with the B-Mets going 1-5. They average less than three runs a game in his six starts. It will be Koch's second appearance against New Hampshire, having tossed two perfect innings of relief against the Fisher Cats in May. He is in search of his first win since June 12th.
NEW HAMPSHIRE STARTER: RHP Taylor Cole makes his team-leading 24th start of the year in Sunday's finale. He's coming off a loss in Reading, where he allowed five runs in five innings. Cole is winless in his last four starts and has posted a 6.27 ERA in his last six outings. It will be his fourth start against the B-Mets this season, having gone 1-2 with a 3.87 ERA over the first three. He beat the B-Mets in his last start, May 14th at NYSEG Stadium. He has surrendered three runs or fewer while going five innings or more in all three starts.
SPLITSIES: Binghamton has now split all three of their doubleheaders this season, including Saturday's. In all three cases, the B-Mets won the first game of the doubleheader before dropping the night cap. They'll play their fourth doubleheader Tuesday against Erie.
FAMILIAR FOE: The B-Mets are in the middle of a stretch of playing the Fisher Cats eight times over 10 days. This is their first series against New Hampshire since June 22nd. A B-Met win Sunday will give them their second series win over the Fisher Cats this season.
DOG DAYS: Brock Peterson is batting .199 in his last 45 games. He hit .342 in his first 22 games with the B-Mets.
VINCE BEL-NO-ME: Vince Belnome is hitless in his last 14 at-bats and is 5-for-36 (.139) since August 8th. Prior to that, he had registered a hit in each of his first eight B-Met starts after being added to the roster on July 28th.
K-ROD: Josh Rodriguez is hitless in last 15 at-bats, with seven of them ending in strikeout. Rodriguez has still gotten on base, drawing eight walks and getting hit by a pitch over his last five games. He has not played since August 11th due to Injury.
AINT NO REST: Gavin Cecchini has not played in the past three games. Prior to that, he had played all 48 games since June 29th. Cecchini hit .353 during that stretch, 2nd best in the EL, and ranks second in the EL in hitting for the season overall. LJ Mazzilli has made his first appearances in the leadoff spot in Cecchini's absence, while TJ Rivera has played shortstop for the first time this season to fill in.
SERIES: B-Mets are 7-2-3 in their 12 series.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets return home to begin a homestand that includes eight games in seven days. It begins with Erie at 6:35 PM Monday.
