Kowalsky Named ECHL Player of the Month

ROANOKE, VA – Roanoke Express veteran right winger Rick Kowalsky was named the Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Month for November, it was announced by the league today. Kowalsky led the Express and tied for the ECHL lead with 22 points (10g-12a) in 13 games and helped Roanoke go 10-3-0 to improve to

12-7-0 and move into fourth place in the Southern Division entering this week's action.

The 31-year-old native of Simcoe, ONT collected a point in all but three games during the month of November, and scored at least two points in seven of the 13 games played by the Express. The winger's best game came on Nov. 28 when he notched four points, two goals and two assists, against Florida and has picked up six points in his last two games.

In his third season with the Express, the team captain leads Roanoke with 12 goals and is tied for second on the team with four power-play goals, three game-winning goals and 26 points in 19 games. In his ninth season in the ECHL, Kowalsky has scored 448 points (179g-269a) in 413 regular season games and 36 points (21g-15a) in 44 postseason games. He had his best offensive season with Roanoke in 2001-02 ranking seventh in the ECHL with 83 points (35g-48a) in 70 games. Kowalsky was named as a starter for the Northern Conference in the ECHL All-Star Game, and he was also named First Team All-ECHL at right wing.

Overall in his professional career, Kowalsky has skated in 544 games, and has a career total of 540 points (214 g-326a). Kowalsky was selected in the 10th round (227th overall) by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1992 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
