Roanoke's Kowalsky Named Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Roanoke right wing Rick Kowalsky is the Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Month for November.

Kowalsky led the Express and tied for the ECHL lead with 22 points (10g-12a) in 13 games and helped Roanoke go 10-3-0 to improve to 12-7-0 and move into fourth place in the Southern Division, two points behind Greensboro (13-6-0) and four points behind leaders Columbia (13-3-2) and Florida (12-4-4).

Kowalsky had seven multiple-point games including four points (2g-2a) in a 7-5 win against Florida on November 28 and three points (1g-2a) in an 8-6 win at Greensboro on November 21. He scored the game-winning goal and had three points (2g-1a) in a 5-1 win against Augusta on November 7 and had the game winner in a 3-1 win against South Carolina on November 16.

He leads the Express with 12 goals and is tied for second on the team with four power-play goals, three game-winning goals and 26 points in 12 games.

In his ninth season in the ECHL, Kowalsky has scored 448 points (179g-269a) in 413 regular season games and 36 points (21g-15a) in 44 postseason games. He had his best offensive season with Roanoke in 2001-02 ranking seventh in the ECHL with 83 points (35g-48a) in 70 games. Kowalsky was named as a starter for the Northern Conference in the ECHL All-Star Game, and he was also named First Team All-ECHL at right wing, along with Steffon Walby of Mississippi. Selected in the 10th round (227th overall) by Buffalo in the 1992 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Kowalsky returned in 2002-03 and scored 82 points (27g-55a) in 68 games.
