Konopka Recalled by Columbus, LaCosta Returned to Crunch

Syracuse, NY (April 1, 2008) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled center Zenon Konopka. In addition, goaltender Dan LaCosta has been returned to the Crunch.

Konopka, 27, has appeared in 59 games for the Crunch this season, racking up 22 goals, 29 assists and 168 penalty minutes. A native of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, he was acquired by Columbus from Anaheim along with Curtis Glencross and a seventh round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft for Joe Motzko, Mark Hartigan and a fourth round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft on January 26, 2007.

LaCosta, 22, has appeared in 12 games for the Crunch this season, going 7-2-3 with a 2.16 goals-against average and .930 save percentage. He made his NHL debut in relief of Fredrik Norrena on March 25, stopping all five shots he faced in 13:09 of action. A native of Labrador City, Newfoundland, LaCosta was drafted by Columbus in the third round, 93rd overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
