STARS RECAP

Friday, March 28

Stars 4 vs Quad City 1

The Stars fell behind early but came back to win 4-1 over the Quad City Flames. The Stars were previously 8-25-3 when giving up the first goal and just 2-4-2 against the Flames on the season. But neither of those stats mattered on a night in which Ray Sawada scored his first professional goal in his first professional game. The win was just the third of the season for the Stars over their division rival Quad City in 9 games. The win also snapped a 3 game losing streak for the Stars. Saturday, March 29 Stars 4 vs Rockford 3

The Stars allowed a first period powerplay goal for the second night in a row. Kris Versteeg got the Ice Hogs on the board with the first of two that were scored in the period at 7:02 with assistance from Petri Kontiola and Niklas Hjalmarsson. Troy Brouwer scored his powerplay goal at 9:31 off a pass from Justin Fletcher. Kontiola would get his second helper of the night on the goal as well. The Stars kept themselves in it with a goal from Chris Conner just a minute later. Conner poked the puck in past Rockford goaltender Corey Crawford as he fell to the ice in front of the net. Janos Vas and Bryce Lampman picked up the assists on the score. Both the Stars and the Ice Hogs went scoreless in the second. After nine penalties in the first period, only one player would visit the box in the second. Kenny MacAulay's holding penalty put the Stars on their second powerplay of the game, but they would not capitalize on the man advantage; eventually going 0 for 3 on the power play for the night and making them 0-28 over the last five games. Tom Wandell evened the score at 2 with his sixth goal of the season. James Neal skated the puck into the zone off a feed from Bryce Lampman and fired across the ice in front of the net to Wandell who was able to snap it in. With his second assist of the night, Lampman now has six assists in the last seven games. Just over two minutes later at 7:11 in the third, Janos Vas found the back of the net with assists going to Perttu Lindgren and Dan Jancevski. Chris Lee added a marker 37 seconds later as the Stars rolled on to take the 4-2 lead. The Ice Hogs were not finished however and Versteeg scored his second of the night at 13:38 in the period to bring them within one

Sunday, March 30

Stars 2 at Rockford 3

Rockford, IL --- The Rockford IceHogs scored three times in the third period to rally from a 1-0 deficit in a 3-2 win over the Iowa Stars Sunday at the Rockford MetroCentre. The Stars, who had rallied from being 2-1 down entering the third period to beat the IceHogs Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena, will take Monday off before hosting the Quad City Flames Tuesday night at 7:07. Tommy Wandell scored his 7th goal of the season as the Stars converted a four-on-two break. James Neal's shot was kicked out by goalie Corey Crawford right to Wandell on the left wing. Rockford would then start the third with three goals in the first 5:09 of the period. Perttu Lindgren cut the lead to 3-2 with a laser wrist shot from the high slot with 6:12 remaining for his eighth tally. Goalie Matt Climie started his second game since joining the team via an ATO and made 20 saves on 23 shots.
