
Komets to battle Mallards for top prize

Fort Wayne Komets News Release
Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets defeated the Port Huron Beacons 3 games to none in the first round and swept the Elmira Jackals out of the playoffs 4 games to none in the 2nd round. Quad City swept the Rockford IceHogs with 3 straight wins in the first round and elmininated the defending champion Muskegon Fury 4 games to 2 in the 2nd round. Now, the stage is set. The Komets will face the Mallards for the Colonial Cup Championship starting Friday at Fort Wayne at 7:35pm.
The Quad City Mallards have won the Colonial Cup 3 times in 5 Finals appearances since joining the UHL in 1995. This is Fort Wayne's first trip to the Finals in 4 seasons of UHL play. Both teams won their respective conferences during the 76-game 2002-03 regular season. The Komets topped the East with 99 points (44-21-11) for the regular season championship and Quad City led the West with 92 points (41-25-10).
The Komets and Mallards have met in the post season for each of Fort Wayne's past 2 appearances. Each time Quad City elminated Fort Wayne from the playoffs. The Komets bowed out of the 2000 playoffs after Quad City won the 2nd round 4 games to 1. Fort Wayne was elminated in the 2nd round of the 2001 playoffs by the Mallards 3 games to none.
The 2003 Colonial Cup Finals will be played under a 2-2-1-1-1 best-of seven format with games 1, 2, 5 and 7 at Fort Wayne.

Tickets for the Komet's first 2 home games of the Finals are on sale at the Coliseum Ticket Office and online at www.ticketmaster.com. Those who already have tickets should use game ticket #5 for Friday, April 25, and game ticket #6 for Saturday, April 26.
All Komet playoff games are schedule to air on WOWO Radio AM 1190 and on the internet at KometCast at www.komets.com.
Komet practices this week.....all at the coliseum. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 10:30am. Friday and Saturday at 10am. Sunday at 11am. Monday (April 28) at 10:30am.
