San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Gulls made it to the Taylor Cup Finals once again. They're still awaiting the winner of the Fresno - Idaho series, but believe me; they don't mind the wait at all.

In fact, the Gulls would love nothing more than to see that series go seven games. Let them keep pounding away at each other - just fine by the Blue and Orange.

As far as the Gulls are concerned, they should be more than rested for Game 1 of the finals, which gets underway Friday no matter who comes out of the other semifinal round. Nevertheless, San Diego doesn't know where it'll be playing.

If Fresno wins, the Gulls will have the home-ice advantage and start the championship at the Sports Arena. If Idaho wins, the series starts at the Bank of America Centre in Boise. Either way, the Gulls will be the fresher team.

NOTES: San Diego is 4-1 all-time in the Taylor Cup Finals... Trevor Koenig leads all netminders in the postseason with a 1.17 goals-against average and .962 save percentage... Mark Pederson has scored a point in every game thus far and leads the league with seven points... The Gulls have knocked the Bakersfield Condors out six times in six chances...

TRANSACTIONS: None.

RECAP:

Condors 0 @ GULLS 3, Tuesday, April 15: Koenig stopped all 22 shots he faced en route to his third career shutout with the Gulls. Pederson got things started 7:29 into the game followed by Dennis Purdie's tally midway through the second period. Clayton Read sealed it early in the third.

Condors 2 @ GULLS 5: Wednesday, April 16: The Gulls exploded in the first period with three goals in four minutes and cruised to a 5-2 win, taking a stranglehold over the series. Read opened the scoring at 12:49 of the first, followed by Pederson at 14:05 and Dean Tiltgen at 16:49. Bakersfield's Jamie Cooke cut the lead to two 11 seconds into the second, but Sylvain Deschatelets answered 39 seconds later to make it 4-1. Cory Cyrenne potted one early in the third before Jonas Lennartsson capped the scoring late.

Condors 1 @ GULLS 3: Friday, April 18: Miguel Delisle scored with nine minutes left in regulation to win the game and win the series for the Blue and Orange. J.J. Wrobel gave the Condors an early 1-0 lead with his tally 14:47 into the opening frame. Pederson converted 52 seconds into the second to tie it. That's how it stayed until Delisle potted his. Tiltgen added an empty-netter, putting the nail in the coffin.
