Mississippi Prepares for Southern Conference Finals

BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Sea Wolves will face the Columbia Inferno in the best-of-seven Southern Conference Finals beginning Wednesday.

Last week, Mississippi was crowned the Southwest Division Champion by sweeping the Louisiana IceGators, 3 games to 0.

The Sea Wolves finished off the IceGators last Monday, by rallying to score three straight goals and win 3-2 in Game 3.

Player of the Week:

Veteran forward Dave Paradise scored the tying goal on the power play in the second period against Louisiana last week. It was the third goal for the 29-year-old over his last three playoff games. Overall in the postseason, the 6-foot and 190-pound native of St. Paul, Minnesota has four goals and four assists in five games.

Goaltender of the Week:

Greg Gardner backstopped Mississippi to the sweep over Louisiana making 27 saves in Game 3. The 6-foot and 190-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario has won all six of the Sea Wolves postseason games. The 27-year-old is tied for first among goaltenders with six wins, second overall with a 1.17 goals against average in the playoffs and second in save percentage at .964.

Streaking Sea Wolves:

Mississippi has a team record 16 straight wins at home and extended its unbeaten streak to 22 games at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. The Sea Wolves home record over that span is 20-0-2. The last regulation loss suffered by Mississippi at the Wolves Den was on December 20 by a 6-2 score against Louisiana.

Goaltender Greg Gardner has won all six games in the postseason.

Defenseman Jim Baxter has a five-game point streak (2g-6a).

Forward Dave Paradise has a three-game goal streak (3g) and points over his last five games (4g-4a).

Forward Travis Lisabeth has assists over his last two games (2a).

Carrying over from the regular season, goaltender Sean Matile has won his last two starts.

Injured Reserve:

Defenseman Chris Cava and forward Stu Pietersma are still on the injured reserve.
