Komets to battle Generals in home opener October 23

Fort Wayne, IN --- The United Hockey League announced today that the 2004-05 campaign begins Friday, Oct. 15 with the Komets slated to skate at Elmira against the Jackals in the first of an 80-game schedule. The Komets will skate 4 road games before their home opener Saturday, Oct. 23 against the Flint Generals. It will be the first of 40 home games for the Komets as each team in the league will skate a balanced schedule of 40 home games and 40 road games.

This season will be the Komet's 6th in the UHL since joining the league in 1999. The Komets, coming off 2 consecutive Tarry Cup championship seasons (regular season titles) will play at home 13 Fridays, 11 Saturdays, 9 Sundays, 1 Monday, 5 Wednesdays and 1 Thursday. The Quad City Mallards visit for Thanksgiving and the annual Fort Wayne New Year's Eve game will be played against newcomer Motor City Mechanics Friday, Dec. 31. During the Christmas Holiday break the new Kansas City team will visit for the first ever Komet non-holiday Monday night home UHL game Dec. 27.

"We are fortunate to get another great home schedule", Komet President Michael Franke said. "34 home games on Friday, Saturday, Sundays and holidays makes it a very appealing schedule for our fans".

The UHL will be divided into 3 divisions for the 2004-05 season. The Komets will reside in the Western Division with Kansas City (Komet home and away games = 5 home-5 away vs Kansas City), Missouri (5-5), Quad City (3-4) and Rockford (4-3). The Central Division will hold Flint (3-3), Kalamazoo (4-3), Motor City (3-3), Muskegon (2-4) and Port Huron (3-3) while the Eastern Division will carry Danbury (2-2), Elmira (2-2), Adirondack (2-2) and Richmond (2-1). The Komets will skate against Western Division rivals 34 times (17-17), Central Division foes 31 times (15-16) and Eastern Division opponents 15 times (8-7).

The busiest month for the Komets will be December with 17 games (8 home, 9 away) during the month. The Fort Wayne schedule will conclude with 4 road games from April 6th thru the 10th with the last game of the season at Kansas City Sunday, April 10.
