K-Wings open up in Motor City

Kalamazoo, MI.- The Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League announce their schedule for the 2004-2005 season.

The K-Wings season will run from October 15th to April 9th. All 14 of the member teams in the UHL will play 80 games (40 home, 40 away). The K-Wings will play the upcoming season in the newly formed Central Division, which is comprised of all five of the league's Michigan based teams.

The K-Wings will start their 26-week season on October 15th when they play in the inaugural game for the Motor City Mechanics in Fraser, Michigan.

Kalamazoo will open up the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, October 23rd when they host intra-state rivals the Port Huron Beacons.

In addition to rekindling old rivalries, the Kalamazoo Wings will also play the three newest teams in the UHL; the Motor City Mechanics, Danbury Trashers and the soon to be named Kansas City franchise. Kalamazoo will face-off against Motor City seven times this season, including three at Wings Stadium with the Mechanics first visit to Kalamazoo set for Saturday, January 15th. The K-Wings will play four games against the Danbury Trashers, including two at Wings Stadium. The Trashers will make their Wings Stadium debut on Saturday, December 11th. Kansas City, which is the newest member to the UHL family will play the K-Wings eight times, including three games at Wings Stadium. Kansas City will make their first appearance at Wings Stadium on Friday, November 5th.

Other highlights on this season's schedule are Saturday, October 30th at 7:30 PM, when the K-Wings host for the first time in the 04-05 season, the defending Colonial Cup Champions the Muskegon Fury. On Friday, December 31st, the K-Wings will host Kansas City on the K-Wings' Annual New Year's Eve Bash at 7:30 PM. The K-Wings will welcome the Rockford IceHogs to Wings Stadium for its " Pink Ice Game" on Monday, February 14th, at 7:00 PM. One of the most historic traditions in hockey will continue on Thursday, March 17th, at 7 PM, when the Fort Wayne Komets visit Wings Stadium for the 24th Annual World Famous "Green Ice Game".
