Fury announce 2004-05 schedule
July 12, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI.--- Embarking on their 13th season as a member of the United Hockey League, the reigning Colonial Cup Champions, the Muskegon Fury, in conjunction with the UHL, have unveiled their pre-season and regular season schedules for the 2004-05 league-title defending season. Having captured custody of three Colonial Cup crowns through the past five calendar years, the Fury will participate in an UHL-expanded 80-games' schedule spread over 27-weeks spanning from opening night, Friday night, October 15, 2004 through the regular season finale of Saturday, April 9, 2005.
It is still another outstanding game schedule for Muskegon; in fact, it may be deemed one of the better ones in the tradition-steeped franchise history under the Fury moniker. For all local Muskegonites and the greater Lakeshore community, the "Furious Ones" schedule is an attractive one with great fan appeal. Once again, the Fury will be presenting top choice, premium home dates for the upcoming campaign. To expound, 39 of the Fury's 40-home dates at L.C. Walker Arena have been designated as either prime-time weekend dates and/or holiday vacation time with the one other date being introduced as a Fury first-time ever "Kids School Day Game with the Fury."
Included in this season's Fury home schedule of dates, specifically are: 16-SATURDAY NIGHTS; 13-FRIDAY NIGHTS; 6-SUNDAY MATINEE GAMES. There are four holiday dates on the docket as well with three of those slated for the Christmas holiday vacation season along with the return of the Fury's annual Thanksgiving night home appearance on THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 25TH. The Christmas vacation home dates will be THURSDAY, DECEMBER 23RD, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 28TH and THURSDAY, DECEMBER 30TH.
For the first time in Fury franchise history, and for that matter, the 45-year history of Muskegon pro hockey, the Fury organization will introduce a special "Kids School Day" game with the Fury. This home day date is set for TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND AT 10:30 AM AT WALKER ARENA against the Fort Wayne Komets.
The Fury will actually begin the defense of their latest UHL crown on the road where they will be hosted by in-state, in-division rival Flint on Friday night, October 15th. Muskegon's own home opening night extravaganza will come one night later when the Champions are presented their championship rings in one final celebration of Colonial Cup III, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 16TH AT 7:30 PM against new expansion entry, the Motor City Mechanics.
Game times for the Fury home action this year will be set at 7:30 PM for all games scheduled Monday through Saturday nights, excluding the special November 2nd date, with all Sunday games on the docket as 2:00 PM matinee affairs.
With the UHL expanding from 11 to 14 teams for 2004-05, the Fury have been placed in the newly-created Central Division, consisting of all Michigan-based clubs; namely the Flint Generals, Kalamazoo Wings, Motor City Mech-anics and Port Huron Beacons. The Fury will engage in combat 32-times with their intra-division enemies with 15 games at home and 17-more abroad. Muskegon will see its most activity against the Western Division of Fort Wayne, fledgling franchise Kansas City, Missouri, Quad City and Rockford as they will tackle those adversaries a total of 33-times; 17-home and 16-away. There are 15-dates against the Eastern Division of Adirondack, expansion-ist Danbury, Elmira and Richmond; 8-home and 7-road.
The Fury will be fostering arch-rivalries with their two most proximate geographic foes in colliding with Kalamazoo and Flint each 9-times; 4-times at home and 5-more on the road with each of those clubs. In-division rivals Port Huron (4-home, 3-away) and Motor City (3-home, 4-away) are on the Fury's schedule for 7-games as are West members Quad City (4-home, 3-away), Rockford (3-home, 4-away) and Kansas City (3-home, 4-away).
The most ambitious months for Head Coach Todd Nelson's reigning titlists will be December and February with 16-games listed for the final month of the current calendar year, (7-home, 9-road) and 14-bouts in February, (8-home, 6-road). Muskegon will play its most road games in December and its most games in the home territory in February.
The inception of the new schedule is a most favorable one for the Fury as 7 of their initial 9-games will be played at home while they will punctuate and culminate the regular season by playing 4 of their final 6, also at home. How-ever, just prior to the season's last 6-outings, Muskegon will face a daunting 7-game road expedition spanning from March 20th through April 1st.
There will be 11-times during the regular phase in which the Fury will be confronted with an ambitious agenda consisting of three-games in three nights. On 12-other occasions, the Fury will be in town for back-to-back weekend home appearances.
The Fury have also solidified a three-games' pre-season schedule which will feature clashes against nearby, neigh-borhood Michigan opponents. Their pre-season slate will be launched, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6TH AT KALAMAZOO, followed by a home-and-home weekend series against Motor City on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8TH in Detroit and, the Fury's lone home pre-season encounter, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9TH against the same Mechanics squad.
