Komets Roll to Four-Game Win Streak

Fort Wayne, IN -- The Komets swept all three games for week six in the CHL to gain six points, improve to 9-5-0 and jump into second place in the Turner Conference, fifth place overall in the league, with 18 points and a .643 win percentage.

Week six in review -- The week started with the Komets' fourth straight Thanksgiving night home win 3-1 over the visiting Bloomington Blaze in front of 7,749 Fort Wayne faithful. It was the 50th Fort Wayne Thanksgiving anniversary game and the Komets improved their home turkey day record to 32-14-4. Friday the Komets clipped the Mallards at Quad City 6-5 in their first of five trips to Moline, Illinois this season. Saturday the Komets crushed the Gems in Dayton 5-2 for their fourth straight win and fourth straight road win.

Komet leaders of the week -- 14 different players figured in the Fort Wayne scoring for the week. Center Brett Smith and right wing Jean-Michel Rizk led the charge with three goals and five points each. Smith, with points in each game, extended his point-scoring streak to a CHL high for the season of 13 games (9 goals, 13 assists). Also, with a goal in each game, Smith pushed his goal-scoring streak to a current league high of four games (4 goals). Smith continues to lead the Komets with nine goals and 22 points after appearing in all 14 games to date.

Forward Chris Auger also had points in each of the three games played for a three-game point streak (1 goal, 2 assists).....Right wing Bobby Chaumont contributed points in two of the three games (2 goals, 1 assist) and leads the Komets with 16 assists. Chaumont, Smith and defenseman Bryant Molle share the plus/minus lead with +12.

Center Colin Chaulk, skating his ninth Fort Wayne season, registered four assists for the week to reach 499 all-time (regular season and playoffs) Fort Wayne career assists.

Nick Boucher (8-3-0) won both of his appearances for a three-game winning streak. The Komet netminder stopped 60 of 63 shots for a 1.50 goals-against average and .952 save percentage for the week and improves to a CHL second-best 2.38 goals-against average after 12 appearances.

Special K's -- The Komets were 3/8 (37.5%) on the power play to lead the CHL with a 28.3% power play rating. Chris Auger, Brett Smith and Bobby Chaumont combined for the Komets' power play goals. The Komets have the top power play while on the road scoring a 33.3% efficiency with the man advantage.

Shooting the puck -The Komets continued to dominate their opponents with shots posting a 104-94 margin in the three games of the week and rank third with an average of 34.6 shots per game.....The Komets are unbeaten (9-0-0) when taking the lead into the third period. The K's are 5-1-0 when leading after the first period.

Milestones -- defenseman Jamie Lovell celebrated his 200th CHL career game Thursday registering an assist in the Komets' 3-1 home win over Bloomington.....newcomer netminder Alex Kangas appeared in his first pro game Friday and posted his first career win 6-5 at Quad City making 26 saves. Kangas was added to the lineup Thursday after goaltender Kevin Beech was placed on waivers. Kangas completed four seasons of goaltending with the University of Minnesota (WCHA) last year and was a fifth round choice by Atlanta in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Goodbye November, hello December -- The Komets completed their 12 games for November with a 8-4-0 record for the month (.667), improving over last year's record for November of 4-6-0. Center Brett Smith was the Fort Wayne November leader with seven goals and 20 points while sharing the team best plus/minus with Bobby Chaumont of +14 for the month. Chaumont also led with 14 assists. Smith had points in each game of the month and posted six games with multiple points. Nick Boucher backstopped the Komets to seven wins during November (7-2-0) while registering a 2.05 goals-against average and .930 save percentage in 10 of the 12 games of November. The Komets' power play was successful for 13 goals on 43 chances for a 30.2% efficiency.

December holds 14 games for the Komets, seven at home and seven on the road. The busiest week will be the last week of December when the Komets are slated for four games in five nights including three home games in five nights during the holiday week of Dec. 25-31. Evansville, Dayton, Texas, Bloomington and Missouri will make trips to Fort Wayne in November. Texas will make it's first trip ever to Fort Wayne when the Brahmas visit Wednesday, Dec. 21. Bloomington will be back for the Christmas holiday week for games on Tuesday, Dec. 27 and New Year's Eve.

GAMES THIS WEEK

Komets on the road to Rapid City -- The Komets will make their second and final trip of the season to Rapid City for games Friday and Saturday. Both games start at 9:05pm ET. The Komets split a pair of games at Rapid City Nov. 11 and 12 in their previous visit this year. It's also the last time this season the Komets face the Rush. The Komets hold a 2-1-0 series lead over the Rush heading into this weekend's games at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Arena (5,119) in Rapid City, South Dakota. The rival Rush (8-6-1, 17 points) trail the Komets by a point in the Turner Conference and are idle until the Komets visit this weekend. Rapid City is coming off a three-game home stand against Evansville, taking the series against the visiting IceMen 2-1-0.

NEXT HOME GAME -- The Komets will return to the Memorial Coliseum for a home double-header weekend Dec. 10 and 11. It will be the start of eight Komet home games over the last 22 days of December. The Evansville IceMen visit Saturday, Dec. 10 at 7:30pm and the Dayton Gems will be in town for a Sunday matinee Dec. 11 at 5pm.

INC Soundoff with the Komets Monday nights -- The Komets, along with Indiana's News Center and title sponsor PHP, present a live weekly televised sports program on Monday nights at 7:30 on WPTA TV 21 Alive. The show is televised live from Wrigley Field Bar and Grill each week throughout the 2011-12 season with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host. Komet players and personnel will serve as co-hosts during the half-hour program. The show will also feature highlights, interviews, call-ins and special segments. TONIGHT, Nov. 28, forwards Bobby Chaumont and Jean-Michel Rizk will be special guests.

60th Anniversary Komet Hockey on WOWO -- The Komets and WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM have partnered once again for 2011-12. Broadcaster Bob Chase will call the action for his 59th consecutive season radio-rinkside. All games broadcast on radio, home and away, can be heard online at Xfinity KometCast. Most games will be broadcast on WOWO Radio News-Talk 1190 AM with ESPN Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when scheduling conflicts occur.
