
Komets nipped by Mallards in OT 6-5

The Komets were clipped by the visiting Quad City Mallards in overtime Friday night 6-5 and maintain their point streak of eight points in the last five games (3-0-2).
Brandon Warner netted a pair for the Komets and added an assist for a three-point New Year's Eve. Mathieu Curadeau, Frankie DeAngelis and Tab Lardner also earned tallies in the match. Paul Kelly scored two for Quad City including the game-winner in the extra frame. Darren McMillan, Zac Pearson, Obi Aduba and Jake Riddle each contributed markers in the Mallard's win.
Komet goaltender Nick Boucher suffered his 10th loss of the season making 16 saves on 19 shots in relief after Kevin Reiter stopped six of nine shots in the first 20:27 of the game. Netminder David Brown earned his seventh win of the season for Quad City allowing five goals on 44 shots.
The Komets continue unbeaten on New Year's Eve in the last nine years (8-0-1) and are 36-13-5 after 54 Fort Wayne New Year's Eve games and 8-16-1 on the season. Quad City improves to 15-14-0.
The Komets will start the new year with a 7:30pm faceoff Saturday at Dayton. The Komets return home to host the Evansville IceMen next Friday, Jan. 7 at 8pm.
